Facebook can be your best friend

Today, engagement is one of the most important factors in social marketing success.  The social marketing team at Single Throw regularly comes across Facebook pages with stale and boring content.  Social marketing is not a “set it and forget it” way to promote your company or brand; it needs to be monitored and updated frequently to keep the page fresh and new.  Below you will find some helpful tips on how to increase interest in your Facebook page from the Social Marketing Consultants at Single Throw

  1. Develop a social marketing strategy.  Make sure you know not only your brand, but what your target audience would be interested in.  Every post, photo, poll, and video needs to have a strategy behind it.  This strategy needs to not only be implemented on social media platforms, but should incorporate your traditional marketing plan as well. – CONSISTENCY IS KEY!
  2. Create unique and interesting content.  The main reason behind Facebook users liking your page is because they are interested in your company or brand.  The difficult part is trying to engage these fans.  The main goal of your social marketing strategy should be getting fans to like a post, answer a question, or share your content with their friends.  Without this, your Facebook page is boring and stale, and fans will eventually unsubscribe to the page. – BE CREATIVE!
  3. Fan-gated landing pages.  This gives a Facebook fan page a clear call to action. By default, Facebook automatically drives viewers to your wall and doesn’t entice them to become a fan.  Setting up a fan-gated landing page provides a message to these users inviting them to like your page before heading to the Facebook wall.  This will increase your social media audience, thus increasing engagement on your page. – CALL TO ACTION!
  4. Never automate posts or content on Facebook. There are a variety of tools that allow marketers to schedule posts ahead of time.  These tools can be very efficient and save time, however, we do not recommend using these tools on a daily basis because it can cause discrepancies.  For example, during Hurricane Irene when the entire Jersey Shore was shut down a local tourist attraction who automates content on Facebook posted, “ TGIF, Come down and enjoy a drink with us this weekend.”  Unfortunately, due to the Hurricane the entire Jersey Shore area was closed down, and visitors were told by the governor not to visit. This is a common mistake that occurs from automating posts ahead of time.  These tools should be used as a backup when someone cannot monitor your social marketing platforms.
  5. Facebook advertisements.  On a Facebook fan page, people have to proactively search for your page in order to like it.  This makes it difficult to try to gain fans who may not already know about your company or brand.  This is where Facebook advertising would come in.  When you utilize Facebook ads there are many ways you can target a certain demographic of people who could potentially be interested in your brand, product, or service. – GROW YOUR AUDIENCE!

Facebook marketing is not cut and dry!  You need to consistently monitor your Facebook page and revamp the strategy as needed.  At the end of the day, implementing these tips should help prevent your fan page from getting lost in the sauce.
